Esparza is a bacteriologist and clinical microbiologist at the pontifical Javeriana University of Bogota Colombia, where he is professor of antimicrobials in the pre-graduate and post-graduate programs in medical microbiology. He is also a professor of the residence in infectious diseases of the Universidad del Rosario. He currently leads PROASECAL's microbiology aptitude trial, is a member of the U.S. CLSI's microbiology expert panel, and coordinates the clinical microbiology committee of the Pan American Association of Infectology API. His interests include: susceptibility and bacterial resistance tests and rapid microbiological diagnostic techniques applied to antibiotic management (Antimicrobial Stewardship).
